COVID-19

COVID Antigen Test

“Do you currently have it?”

The 15-minute Antigen testing we have, will check for specific viral protein. In other words, it finds the virus in your body. If it finds it, it is 99% certain it is there. It does not tell you if you have symptoms or the severity of the infection the virus can cause. The clinical findings will tell you how ill you are. It does not predict if you will have no symptoms or if you will be ill enough to require hospital treatment.

That is why we want to evaluate you for any signs or symptoms that require further treatment or investigation if you get tested. We want to know if you have risk factors for a possibly worse outcome. We also want to advise you on proper isolation if you test positive but have no symptoms or minor symptoms. If you are positive, you can infect people at high risk. Current recommendations are for people with a positive test without symptoms are to self-isolate for 10 days to keep from spreading the infection.

All the Antigen testing currently used, that are reputable, will have a 20% chance of a false negative. This means that if your test is negative, no viral protein was detected. It could be because there is not enough of a viral load in your body, a poorly obtained sample (why we do a thorough swab that feels like a brain biopsy) or from ability of test to not fully detect the virus.

If you have symptoms suggesting a viral infection and a negative test, we will send a second swab to the lab for a lengthier more accurate test that can find viruses not detected by the 15-minute test.

COVID antibody testing (2-day version)

“Did you have it in the past?”

The Antibody testing, we provide, will check for IgG, which tells you if you have had the Corona virus in the past. It is one of the FDA endorsed tests. It does not tell you if you are currently infected. You don’t take this test if you are potentially currently sick with the Corona virus, because it will not be positive until weeks after you have been ill with the Corona virus. If you think you currently have the Corona Virus, please refer to the Antigen test as discussed above, or contact your local health department for information on testing via nasopharyngeal swab for a cheaper and free option.

This test will tell you if you had the Corona virus in the past, but not guarantee you are immune. It is a good indicator you probably are immune to the current strain of the Corona virus, but that is still not well studied.

If you are positive, it will give some peace of mind that you are possibly safe to be in contact with currently ill people and you can be in crowds without risking getting ill. Stay tuned for further research and investigation on this issue.

This will also help doctors understand how this virus is behaving, thus allowing better science on predicting what is happening.

Our test will be performed as a blood draw and sent to a diagnostic laboratory with results in 24-48 hours. We have chosen not to use some of the rapid tests that are currently on the market due to lack of solid clinical study data.

Vaccine and drug treatment

Vaccinating our communities has and will continue to take team work and patience. We are blessed that so many wonderful companies, hospitals, and organizations are working together to get the COVID vaccination out as quickly and efficiently as possible to our community. We are truly proud and honored to be a part of the fight against COVID.

If, and only if, you qualify for the present phase of the COVID vaccination rollout, please call your local participating Health District to be placed on the waiting list.

Angelina Health District: (936) 680-8500

In an effort to allow our employees the time to treat our patients, please call the COVID vaccine hotline within your district. Our clinical allotment has dramatically decreased due to the latest rollout changes.

Remdesivir Is being used on an “emergency use authorization”. It has showed a shortened time to recovery by a new study from National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease. It is being fast tracked as well.
